Why I love summertime in Barcelona

Barcelona is the city of Gaudi and all things Spanish and my favourite time to visit this spectacular city is during the summer. Barcelona comes alive in the summer and despite the heat sees a lot of tourists fly into the city. The city puts up shows, events and concerts and festivals during its summer months and if you Gaudi and Barcelonahappen to be in the region during this season, you are sure to enjoy yourself.

When in Barcelona, do not forget to sample paella made with the seasonal catch and vegetables and try out local tapas and cool Spanish beers to refresh you from the summer heat.

Some interesting things to do in Barcelona include visiting the region’s beautiful beaches which offer a host of water sports and beach activities during the summer. I would recommend a trip to Barceloneta beach in particular which has been recognised to be one of the most popular beaches in the world. You can also opt to visit the Mar Bella and Bogatell beaches which are relatively quieter are far more private.

Other interesting places you may want to visit include the Ramblas Boulevard, which is lined with bars, shops, cafes, restaurants and cinemas, the Gothic Quarter, Montjuic Park, the Port Olympic area and Park Guell. You can also opt to take a Golondrinas pleasure boat cruise around the harbour area or go in a Catamaran.

Most tourists to Barcelona will enjoy sightseeing around the promenades and the squares. The city has several restaurants and cafes that allow patrons to sit on their terraces or at street side tables and enjoy their tapas in the evening breeze.

If you are looking for events that you can attend, the Festa Major de Gràcia and the Festes de La Mercè are good events that take place in August and September respectively. Also for short term rentals in Barcelona a company such as Holiday-Velvet.com specialise in Barcelona.
